umcp: a zero-dependency, 3-file pure-Python MCP server core on GitHub
rcarmo · x · 2026-10-10
rcarmo introduces umcp, a lightweight, zero-dependency implementation of the Model Context Protocol in pure Python, supporting both asyncio and synchronous transports (23 stars on GitHub). Inspired by a bash-based MCP server, it converts type hints to JSON Schema and naming conventions to MCP annotations with no decorator boilerplate. The whole runtime is three files—umcp.py, aioumcp.py, and umcpshared.py—readable in an afternoon. He also mentions Bun and Go ports used as constrained, authenticated interfaces, and the idea of an MCP server automatable by an external agent.
