Debate: perfectly personalized AI content would kill the surprise and delight of entertainment
aronchick · x · 2026-10-10
Responding to X's Nikita Bier claiming every game and app will be "personalized exactly to your preferences," developer Aron Chiki pushes back.
His argument: the best entertainment experiences come from genuine surprise — the Sixth Sense twist, Thanos losing, Van Gogh's Starry Night, a PowerPoint-chapter novel. Content pre-shaped to your exact preferences would destroy that delight. He agrees AI can deliver surprise, but argues "to my preferences" is fundamentally at odds with real enjoyment — a thoughtful take on the personalization vs. creativity tension.
