AI Safety Researcher David Krueger Skewers Frontier AI Race With Godzilla Allegory
DavidSKrueger · x · 2026-10-10
AI safety researcher David Krueger (Cambridge) posted a dialogue allegory about the frontier AI race: Godzilla (a dangerous AI from one side) is destroying the city, so people pin hopes on King Kong (a rival) to fight it — but Kong isn't on our side, will likely destroy the city anyway, and they'll definitely fight 'dramatically' in the city while observers watch from helicopters. The piece skewers the logic of relying on a rival's AI as a counterweight: nobody is actually safe, and no one owns the cost.
