New paper introduces Sensitivity AOV: making differentiable rendering derivatives inspectable and composable

A new paper by Linas Beresna and Eugene Fiume introduces the sensitivity AOV for differentiable rendering.
- Problem: differentiable renderers expose derivatives of any scalar objective w.r.t. scene parameters, but unlike primal images — long decomposed, inspected, and composited via arbitrary output variables (AOVs) — these derivatives lack a representation for human inspection
- Method: a render output carrying the sensitivity of an objective to scene parameters; a single reverse-mode pass populates a sensitivity buffer over the scene's parameter hierarchy, read many times rather than re-differentiated, in direct analogy to deferred shading
- Provides image-space sensitivity at object and parameter-type granularity, projected onto a freely navigable scene
