Robots nearing their "GPT-2 moment" as pretraining and world models mature, investors say
FinanceYF5 · x · 2026-10-09
Industry observers argue robots are approaching their "GPT-2 moment"—some even say GPT-3 stage.
Two paths support this: broader pretraining is helping robots generalize to unfamiliar tasks, while world models let them simulate futures before acting, learning and planning with less real-world trial and error.
Companies to watch: Skild AI, Generalist AI, Sunday Robotics, Odyssey, and Wayve. Related: Anthropic's internal index shows Claude drove 26% of model R&D in August, with agent usage in knowledge work growing fast.
