ChatGPT age verification rolls out with broken flow: 403 errors block iOS and web verification
Konoplitski · reddit · 2026-10-09
On October 9, a Reddit user reported that ChatGPT suddenly started claiming it didn't know their age and had applied extra safety restrictions to the account. When attempting verification, the iOS app immediately returns a 403 error on the "Verify age" button, while the browser settings page fails with "Failed to update age verification status."
Both app and web paths are blocked before the actual verification process even begins. The user can't tell whether this is a widespread OpenAI-side bug or an account-specific issue, and is left waiting for a fix. The post highlights real usability problems during the rollout of OpenAI's age verification system.
