Bitter Lesson keeps winning — better at building AGI, no closer to understanding consciousness

An observation doing the rounds: every new frontier model release keeps validating the Bitter Lesson — scale and general methods beat hand-engineering — suggesting we're getting much better at building general intelligence without necessarily getting any closer to understanding consciousness.
The widening gap between engineering capability and theoretical understanding remains a recurring tension in AGI debates.
