Trapped-ion quantum computing startup Universal Quantum has closed a $100M+ Series A, the largest ever for a UK-headquartered quantum company. The round was co-led by DCVC and Firgun Ventures, with backing from EDBI, Main Sequence, Roblox founder Dave Baszucki and other sovereign, institutional and deep-tech investors.
The capital will fund global expansion and the commercialization of its modular approach — leveraging patented world-record interconnect technology and advanced integrated chips toward fault-tolerant quantum computing. DCVC noted that unlike paper-focused peers, the company has been laser-focused on building a quantum computer that scales to utility and solves real business problems.
