Meta's Alexandr Wang: Execution, Not IQ, Is the Real Moat at the Top
arthurcolle · x · 2026-10-09
Alexandr Wang argues the gap between top performers and the other 99% comes from extreme execution, not intelligence.
His three rules:
- Absolute focus: most busyness is low-density pseudo-work; compress all cognitive bandwidth onto a single core leverage point.
- Over-delivery as a moat: when the standard is one mile, go ten; consistently delivering 200% captures all the reputation and premium.
- Targeted over-output: effort must serve a specific goal—treat every deliverable as a do-or-die test, not self-indulgent grinding.
His bottom line: smart people are everywhere; people who can endure extreme tedium and over-deliver for years are rare, and that execution surplus is the most brutal moat.
