Anil Seth: Creating fake people like Tavos's Griffin AI avatar is a terrible idea
mikeflache · x · 2026-10-09
Consciousness scientist Anil Seth argues in Nautilus that Tavos's Griffin — a "human interaction model" claimed to be the first AI to pass a video-based Turing Test — should never have been released. He warns indistinguishable digital people will fuel financial fraud, exploit loneliness, worsen mental illness, and erode our shared sense of reality, possibly doing more damage than social media. His key point: these artificial entities don't need genuine consciousness to dismantle public trust and social cohesion.
