TypeSafe shipped Jev, then OpenAI launched a rival Decisions API 14 days later

An ex-OpenAI researcher's bet paid off fast: Diogo Almeida left OpenAI, raised $40M for TypeSafe, and shipped Jev on Sept 15 — a model that generates no text at all. You send it application state and typed questions; it returns decisions with calibrated probabilities in 70-500ms, at $42 per billion input tokens with free output.

Fourteen days later, at DevDay on Sept 29, OpenAI announced its own Decisions API (powered by GPT-6 Luna): questions in, predefined answers with confidence scores out, 150ms latency, now in public beta. The point, as @xwanglk notes: "You cannot build a new API product in two weeks." Yes, you can — incumbents are copying this fast.
