Maker @aegrabs shared a self-designed quasi-direct-drive planetary gearbox that integrates into a robot forearm. The design has been switched to BLDC motors to enable force sensing, allowing the gripper to pick up an egg without crushing it — a neat example of low-cost force-controlled actuation for hobby robotics.
