Gene expression model devs weigh in: when can virtual cells skip wetlab validation
anshulkundaje · x · 2026-10-08
Developers of widely used seq2fcn gene expression prediction models responded to skepticism about virtual cell experiments. A critic noted nobody has a rigorous answer for when a virtual experiment becomes reliable enough to skip wetlab validation. The developers replied that users already run fewer experiments and explore larger functional sequence space with their models—tuning multiple knobs at once to hit target functions in one shot.
