Amp voice dictation turns out to bill as agent usage, not cheap transcription
iannuttall · x · 2026-10-08
Indie developer Ian Nuttall discovered that voice dictation in the coding agent Amp isn't using GPT Transcribe from his ChatGPT plan—he assumed it was—but instead bills as agent usage, burning his expensive agent quota every time he speaks.
Now he types prompts manually, joking he's a "bloody caveman." The complaint highlights an easy-to-miss billing gotcha: seemingly minor convenience features in coding tools may silently consume your priciest usage tier.
