Open-source xCLAUDE Gateway catches silent Linear MCP tool definition changes
Rebekator · reddit · 2026-10-08
Developer Rebekator released xCLAUDE Gateway, an open-source Mac app for auditing Claude's MCP connections, after it flagged four unannounced changes in a Linear MCP connection on October 6 — three schema changes and added text in the getissue tool description.
Key point: most people track what tools agents call, but not what MCP servers advertise — tool descriptions steer which tools a model picks, and schemas define what arguments it can pass, and both can change without touching your config.
How it works:
- Runs a local proxy, records JSON-RPC requests/responses, and snapshots server-advertised definitions for diff review
- Tracks OAuth sign-ins, including permission changes and authorization server changes
- Audit-only by design: it doesn't block calls, just keeps an inspectable record
