As ChatGPT ships interactive UI, Qoni launches badge-style identity infra for AI agents

On the same day ChatGPT rolled out its interactive UI, Authing founder Xie Yang launched Qoni, an identity and permission infrastructure for Personal Agents built around issuing each agent a digital "work badge."
The problem: Agents today have no independent identity or standard auth method — they borrow the user's accounts, credentials, and payment info, creating major risk. Each era spawned its own identity protocols (AD/Kerberos, SAML/OAuth, OIDC); agent auth is the next iteration.
How Qoni works:
- Agents get identity but no standing permissions; before each task they exchange a temporary pass scoped to specific actions (read customer data, send email — not delete), a time window (e.g. 15 minutes), revocable anytime. Every step is logged under the authorizing user, so incidents trace back to the exact agent.
- Card numbers are encrypted and held by Qoni, filled in directly at checkout — never touching the model, logs, or screenshots — to guard against phishing-driven payment leaks.
- Agents get their own email/phone for SaaS signup and verification codes, plus admin dashboards showing all agents and permissions.
- Qoni also bundles a cloud browser (from Fellou) and the GUMem long-term memory system that logs conversations and actions, and runs periodic analysis.
