Responding to KatjaGrace's question about whether staying inside a frontier lab is still a high-impact option for people who think AI is very dangerous soon, former OpenAI policy lead Miles Brundage argues impact from the inside is possible but generally overestimated, citing a "streetlight effect": people focus on the visible internal opportunities for impact while overlooking the countless ones outside the labs.
