Nature Neuroscience highlights psilocybin study: ML reveals brain 'embeddedness' state
adeelrazi · x · 2026-10-08
- Stoliker, Novelli et al. used multimodal neuroimaging (fMRI+EEG) on 62 psychedelic-naive participants across rest, meditation, music and movie contexts before/after psilocybin.
- Psilocybin reduced functional modularity, yet machine learning showed brain-activity trajectories became more organized by context (notably default-mode and visual networks) — an 'embeddedness' state with diminished self–world boundaries.
- Stronger context-specific organization tracked intense unity/bliss/self-dissolution experiences, didn't correlate with anxiety or impairment, and predicted next-day mindset shifts.
