Mathematicians differ from most scientists in treating math as a calling rather than a tool — and that devotion is why pure math advanced. Yet math remains fundamentally a language for unlocking possibilities. If AI automates enough of the mathematical machinery, the author argues, the frontier shifts from solving harder predefined problems to using math to ask deeper scientific questions and reach what was previously inaccessible.
