Restrict advanced AI detectors to bulk users to deter hidden AI writing, economist suggests

Economist Paul Novosad suggests that Pangram and other top AI-detection providers should offer their most advanced models only to bulk users such as publishers and platforms, not individuals. AI-assisted writers would then face permanent uncertainty about whether their text can be detected, which would sharply reduce the incentive to write with AI and hide it — changing behavior more effectively than detection accuracy alone.
