Responding to criticism of his takeaways from the SlateStarCodex vs. Pinker AI x-risk debate, Joshua Saxe clarifies his actual argument: mitigating AI risk requires understanding the social mechanisms behind it. He says he is very worried about catastrophic risk but unconvinced by the extinction case, and jokes that he can't be dismissing a worried coder about Y2K because he is that worried coder, professionally.
