If LLMs routinely solve open problems, being 'first to prove' won't confer prestige anymore
MathBullied · reddit · 2026-10-07
The author argues that as LLMs become increasingly capable of solving open math problems, "being first to produce a correct proof" will lose its role as the key marker of an important contribution. Journals, conferences, and the community may instead weight proofs by their quality — elegance, depth, simplicity, explanatory power, and whether they introduce genuinely new ideas. He sees this shift as positive.
