Professor decries universities force-feeding AI assignments to students who just want to read books

Literature professor Tyler Harper shared a dispiriting conversation with a student who just wants to read books and actually learn, but keeps getting AI assignments from LLM-enthusiast faculty and AI "tools" pushed by administration "so you know how to apply AI responsibly."
He quotes another university employee who is sick of AI being force-fed into every workflow, calling the technology "based on IP theft" and "an environmental disaster" — and arguing for not using AI at all.
A representative voice of humanities-faculty pushback against top-down AI adoption in higher education.
