AI Agents Now Drive About Half of All Traffic to the St. Louis Fed's FRED Portal

Bloomberg reports that AI agents now account for roughly half of all visits to FRED, the St. Louis Fed's economic data portal, with humans making up the other half. The shift breaks FRED's original design assumption, since the portal was built for humans to view and understand. People see charts, source notes and footnotes together, while agents pull raw numbers and rebuild them into their own summaries — a process where provenance can drop out.
