Turing laureate Patterson: AI will replace all jobs by end of 2030, knowledge work to drop below 1% of today's price
davidpattersonx · x · 2026-10-07
Turing Award winner David Patterson lays out a sweeping prediction: general-purpose AI will surpass every single job by end of 2028 (though inadequate for most roles before then), collapsing knowledge work prices to under 1% of today's levels. Average-intelligence, high-skill jobs like accounting and plumbing go first. Robots lag a couple of years, but all jobs — including physical labor — should be replaced by end of 2030. He calls for phasing in universal high income starting end of 2028 for the unemployed, expanding to everyone by 2032: "We will all be free and rich."
