Addy Osmani: AI Coding Demands Two Filters — Taste to Eliminate, Judgement to Decide
addyosmani · x · 2026-10-07
Google engineer Addy Osmani lays out two distinct faculties for the AI-assisted era. Taste is the pre-verbal intuition for what's good, built from experience; it can disqualify 90% of model-generated drafts but can't pick between the survivors. Judgement is understanding the price of quality — shipping timelines, migration risk, team tradeoffs. Great taste with poor judgement makes beautiful work too late; judgement without taste ships on time but nothing people love. When models generate endless plausible options, the final decision falls entirely to humans — and both filters are essential.
