Open-source jiti-lfe turns chat into a persistent LFE kernel for building live apps
arthurcolle · x · 2026-10-07
Developer arthurcolle open-sourced jiti-lfe, a cooperative kernel built on Lisp Flavored Erlang (LFE, running on Erlang/OTP) that lets you develop and use a live, persistent Lisp application entirely through chat.
The workflow is conversational and iterative:
- Ask the AI to define functions, then try them against the application's real data
- Manage data, run owned background jobs, and build dependency plans from chat
- Each new capability builds on what's already been defined
The repo ships a full engineering setup: AGENTS.md, skills (like ADR maintenance), docs, and examples. It's a replication experiment of Geoffrey Huntley's "chat-as-kernel" development pattern — the author wants to see if swapping the original Lisp implementation for LFE can reproduce the same workflow.
