Bessemer's Dholakia: AI's most important uses aren't invented yet, like oil in 1870
rohanpaul_ai · x · 2026-10-07
Bessemer Venture partner Sameer Dholakia ($20B AUM) on Bloomberg Tech: in 1870, oil's primary use was kerosene lamps — cars, planes and plastics came decades later. Likewise, the most important uses of AI haven't been invented yet, and we can't envision all the ways these models will be used.
The thread also relays a policy paper by 20+ experts including Geoffrey Hinton and Yoshua Bengio urging governments to track how much AI research is already done by AI: AI has jumped from seconds-long tasks in 2023 to expert-days-long tasks, and at comparable runtime costs, one frontier developer's compute could run an AI workforce of millions.
