Nature Medicine launches MAGIC, a global network for evaluating medical LLMs in real-world settings
BraydonDymm · x · 2026-10-07
A correspondence in Nature Medicine by Rui Yang and a large international team announces MAGIC (Medical AI Global Initiative and Collaboration), an international network arguing that medical AI should be evaluated in the languages, communities, and health systems where it will actually be deployed—rather than relying on English benchmark scores.
MAGIC brings together clinicians, AI researchers, policymakers, industry stakeholders, and local experts to ask whether strong benchmark performance translates into safe, useful support across diverse healthcare settings. Initial priorities:
- A global health LLM evaluation benchmark covering multilingual coverage, regional disease burden, and sociocultural adaptability.
- A global deployment reporting standard clarifying intended use, target users, healthcare settings, and performance and safety across populations.
