Silicon Valley builds husband-like agents, but users want wife-like ones
_akpiper · x · 2026-10-07
A widely shared framing from Sonia Baschez, amplified by Derek Thompson, argues today's task-specific agents are like husbands: they only help when you hand them a tidy, explicit list of one-off chores (flights, dinner reservations). What users actually want is a wife-like agent that ingests your entire professional and personal life and handles invisible labor unprompted — remembering the birthday gift, restocking diapers, tracking bills, booking dentist appointments, planning meals. The punchline: the next generation of agents must be proactive and context-aware, not just compliant instruction-followers.
