AI pulls reef lidar and maps 23 Waikiki surf breaks from a single drone photo
apples_jimmy · x · 2026-10-07
The author asked Astra and Claude to map Waikīkī's surf breaks: the agents fetched 1 m resolution lidar of the reef and placed 23 breaks on it. Given just a random drone photo, they worked out the camera position from the shoreline and overlaid the breaks.
The author notes this workflow could be useful for finding "secret spots" — a striking demo of multimodal agents doing real geospatial analysis.
