Garry Tan ports Doom to Paul Graham's Bel LISP in 20 minutes using Opus 5.5
garrytan · x · 2026-10-07
YC president Garry Tan says he used Opus 5.5 in fast mode over dinner with Tom Brown, Tom Blomfield, and Paul Graham to implement Doom in Paul Graham's Bel LISP variant in about 20 minutes — 32k lines of C++ transpiled to under 2k LOC of Bel, plus a full Bel interpreter written in JS. Notable for the "Opus 5.5" version naming.
