NVIDIA survey: 89% of telcos value open-source AI, active AI use jumps to 66%

NVIDIA published a technical blog on telecom autonomous networks alongside its 2026 telecom AI survey: 66% of respondents say their company is actively using AI (up from 49% last year), and 89% rate open-source models and software as important to their AI strategy.
Blog highlights:
- Operators apply AI across network operations, customer care, and back-office workflows, but most sit at TM Forum autonomy Level 2–3; reaching Level 4–5 requires agents that understand operator intent, sense the network in real time, and validate plans via digital twins.
- Three agent types collaborate — on-demand agents for bounded tasks, long-running agents, and deep research agents that develop skills beyond known answers — around a shared problem–solution loop.
- Operations problems follow three paths: execute (known solutions), optimize (known but improvable), and discover (unencountered problems), with research outcomes codified into reusable skills.
- The stack pairs NeMo Data Designer/Safe Synthesizer, Agent Toolkit, OpenShell and NemoClaw for secure runtime access control, Nemotron for reasoning, and AI-Q for deep research agents.
