DINOv3 + SAM Local Vision Pipeline Counts Surgical Instruments in Real Time
MaziyarPanahi · x · 2026-10-06
A demo shows a label-free, training-free, fully local instrument-counting pipeline: SAM 3.1 takes one look at the tray to build a baseline, then DINOv3 watches continuously. It verified 19 of 20 instruments in 14 seconds, flagging the missing one in red, and tracked each tool's out/in timestamps over time — including an osteotome removed at 0:29.8 and never returned.
The obvious use case: preventing retained surgical instruments, with all inference running locally.
