AIGENIE: open-source R package automates psychological scale development with LLMs
GolinoHudson · x · 2026-10-06
A updated arXiv tutorial paper introduces AIGENIE, an R package (on CRAN) implementing the AI-GENIE framework: LLMs generate candidate psychological scale items, which are converted to embeddings and reduced via a network psychometrics pipeline (EGA, UVA, bootstrap EGA) into structurally validated item pools entirely in silico.
- Eight-part tutorial covering setup, generation, embeddings, full pipeline, GENIE for researcher-supplied items, prompt engineering, and fully local operation
- Supports OpenAI, Anthropic, Groq, HuggingFace and local models, with a fully offline mode
- Demonstrated on Big Five personality and the emerging AI Anxiety construct
