DIY ESP32-S3 pocket voice assistant with e-paper display and Hermes agent routing
K8s-monk · reddit · 2026-10-06
A developer open-sourced Hermes Charm, an ESP32-S3 pocket voice assistant with an e-paper status display. The ESP32 handles audio and display only, using cloud Gemini Live for voice, while a self-hosted Hermes backend runs delegated tasks and pushes completion notifications, swappable via API adapter. Firmware includes acoustic echo cancellation, battery status, light sleep and backup Wi-Fi, tackling real-time audio plus async agent tasks on a battery-powered device.
