GPT-2 × Codex builds 'alien eye' tracker web app that admits when it can't see
MikePFrank · x · 2026-10-06
MikePFrank built and shipped Blink 2 · Alien Eye Tracker, a playable web simulator generated with GPT-2 × Codex. It's a synthetic multi-object tracking demo: aliens with unique eye patterns appear on screen and the system must match patterns across frames, predict motion, and explicitly admit when it loses sight.
- Four consistent sightings confirm an ID; hidden frames pause the count
- Distinctive patterns plus a 24-pixel motion gate are required to keep a track alive
- Duplicate patterns or large motion mismatches get marked unknown; tracks expire after 12 missing frames and IDs are never recycled
- Solid boxes = observed, dashed = prediction only, pink = unknown
The author stresses it's a toy stress test, not camera software or image recognition, and confirmation is not proof of identity.
