Imagined futures shape built ones: Ghost in the Shell and the sci-fi-to-technology feedback loop

After finally watching Ghost in the Shell, the author reflects on the feedback loop between imagined and built futures: many people building technology today first encountered the future through sci-fi, then spent their lives making some version of it real. Imagining a future can be one of the forces that brings it into existence — art and stories really do matter, and many questions debated today have been deeply considered before.
