Kurzweil: AGI may arrive before 2029, and the 2030s could end death from aging
tomchapin · x · 2026-10-06
Google futurist Ray Kurzweil has updated his famous prediction: he once said AGI would arrive by 2029, and now argues even that was too conservative.
His core thesis is Longevity Escape Velocity (LEV): by the 2030s, AI-driven medical progress will outpace aging, so each passing year adds more than a year to life expectancy. Superintelligent AI would analyze genetic and cellular decline in real time and generate treatments, treating cancer, heart disease and aging itself like fixable bugs.
His conclusion: anyone alive today who survives roughly another decade could effectively gain the ticket to a world where death from aging no longer exists.
