Dev pushes back on dhh's agent-led rewrite: count tokens spent and bugs left, not concurrency
_rchaves_ · x · 2026-10-06
dhh has been using his token stash to have AI agents port ONCE Campfire from Rails to other stacks, the latest being a JavaScript/Express version with headline performance numbers. A developer offers a different take: average apps will never see 36k concurrent requests — the metrics that really matter for agent-led development agility are compilation time, how many tokens the agent spent building it, and how many bugs it left behind.
The Express repo is real: a native Node.js 24 + Express 5 implementation that stays compatible with the original SQLite schema, bcrypt passwords and Rails login cookies, retaining the Turbo/Stimulus frontend with native WebSockets speaking Action Cable.
