Brain Co launches Synapse, a design system that encodes judgment for AI agents
LVidegaray · x · 2026-10-07
Brain Co design lead Clark Newlove details Synapse, the company's new design system. The old system Pearl had decayed—Figma and code drifted apart, Storybook was offline for months, engineers forked copies (one copied a 5,000-line component file and wrote his own docs just to feed his coding agent), and designers built private libraries to work around clashing buttons.
Synapse's thesis: with free components and agents writing code, the scarce asset is design judgment. Beyond components, it encodes the decisions behind them—which patterns fit which work, what stays visible, and what a person needs to know before acting—so both humans and agents can follow them.
