- CME announced in August the launch of compute futures contracts. Executive Pete Keavey likened it to oil: just as oil fuelled the 20th-century economy and evolved from spot trading into a global derivatives market, compute futures will turn compute into a standardized, tradeable commodity.
- Wall Street is bullish: BlackRock CEO Larry Fink said in May that "a new asset class will be buying futures of compute."
- The post highlights how compute is being financialized into an oil-like hedged, speculated commodity, with major capital supremely bullish.
