Self-replicating robot factories: AI agents coordinating modular robot cells
ihorbeaver · x · 2026-10-06
The author proposes borrowing a mechanism from biology: modular robotic 'cells' capable of electronics assembly, coordinated by an AI agent that specializes each cell with fixtures for assembly, calibration, testing, 3D printing, etc. — together forming a self-replicating robotic organism/factory.
Context: only 30-40K industrial robots were installed in the US last year, so demand pull from existing factories is weak, and promised humanoids still need someone to build them. The author argues recent models (Astra/Opus) can already coordinate robots by writing reliable code, making this feasible today.
