Wittgensteinian critique: the AI consciousness debate is language idling, doing no work
birchlse · x · 2026-10-06
Citing Devin Goure's thread, the author argues from a Wittgensteinian perspective that virtually everything said about AI consciousness is what Wittgenstein called the metaphysical use of language — words idling like an engine, doing no real work — and a philosophical nadir for the culture. Russell's quip is quoted: the early Wittgenstein thought intensely, while the later one invented a doctrine making such thought unnecessary.
