Ben Goertzel: Neural-Symbolic Agentic Loops Could Yield a Near-Term Intelligence Explosion
bengoertzel · x · 2026-10-06
Ben Goertzel responds to Ramez Naam's careful skeptical analysis of why LLMs upgrading LLMs won't FOOM. Naam, building on Tom Cunningham's work and the Epoch Capabilities Index, treats RSI as a feedback loop and argues today's LLM-based recursive self-improvement won't produce a hard takeoff. Goertzel argues that analysis only covers RSI via series of LLM training runs; for self-modifying "OmegaHives" — neural-symbolic agentic loops his team is building — he claims hard-takeoff conditions start to look reachable soon, via a tighter RSI loop than successive training runs.
