Sam Altman: 'The AI thing already happened' — AGI here or close, superintelligence undersells it
haider1 · x · 2026-10-06
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told POLITICO's new Decoded podcast: 'I think the AI thing already happened — a lot of people would say AGI happened or is close to happening.' He argued 'superintelligence' still understates what's happening but is a better term than 'artificial intelligence.' In the interview he also said 'the world should accept some bad things happening for the benefits of this technology' and discussed how OpenAI differs from Anthropic on safety trade-offs.
