77% of Americans Want AI Development Slowed or Stopped Until Safety Is Verified

A new Quinnipiac University poll finds 77% of Americans want AI development slowed or stopped entirely until its safety has been verified. Meanwhile, 86% support independent safety standards and 74% have little or no trust in AI company leaders. Researcher Chetan Jaiswal noted the public wants safeguards that don't rely simply on taking company leaders at their word.
