a16z's 7th Top 100 consumer AI apps: ChatGPT cracks global top 20 by paid subs

a16z published the 7th edition of its Top 100 Gen AI Consumer Apps, ranking AI web and mobile products by monthly traffic. Only 11 products debut this time — the fewest across all seven lists — signaling a stabilizing leaderboard.
For the first time, the report adds a ranking by observed U.S. consumer card spending via YipitData, revealing dozens of vendors invisible to traffic data. The authors note ChatGPT already ranks in the top 20 global consumer products by paid subscribers, alongside mostly media companies and a few retailers (Amazon, Costco); as model COGS decline and products reach ad scale, more free usage is expected.
