Menlo backs Factory to automate the full software lifecycle as coding market hits $30B
matanSF · x · 2026-10-05
Menlo Ventures is investing in Factory, which builds a model-agnostic platform automating the entire software lifecycle — planning, review, testing, security, documentation — used by hundreds of thousands of developers at Nvidia and Blackstone.
- Partner Matt Murphy, who led Anthropic's Series D in Jan 2024 when its best model was Claude 2.1, is known for being very early and very right.
- Menlo says the coding market grew from $550M to $4B to $30B+ in two years, capturing nearly half of all AI application spend; GitHub commits are up 6x.
- The thesis: code generation was only one step; the next stage is outcome-driven development, where Factory autonomously runs the "machine that builds the machine."
