Karpathy: stop sending slides — generate throwaway pages and videos to explain things
sujingshen · x · 2026-10-05
- Andrej Karpathy argues that as AI gets more capable, human work moves up a level to reviewing and supervising — and making AI output legible becomes key. When generation is nearly free, human comprehension is the new bottleneck: output is abundant, attention is scarce.
- His four escalating techniques for readability:
- Write: have AI explain concepts under the ASD-STE100 simplified-English spec, even at 80% compliance — far more readable;
- Draw: ask for an image, which is easier to parse than text;
- Generate an HTML page;
- Best: a fully bespoke explainer video for any topic.
- The sharer's takeaway is "disposable software": generation is now so cheap you can build a one-off webpage or animation just to communicate one idea, then throw it away. Reports and proposals may default to a freshly generated mini-app instead of a slide deck — a new class of software built for communication and thinking, not as a product or tool.
